IS NIGERIA REALLY THE GORY PICTURE SOME ARE PAINTING? PDF
Written by WebMaster

Nigeria is one hot piece of news. With one in every four Africans being a Nigerian it is not hard to understand why. However, so much attention is being paid to issues that border on bad political and sectarian intolerance that one is prompted to ask: is that really the true picture of Nigeria presently?

We join the whole world to mourn the catastrophe that has been Haiti in recent times and also the ‘Lebanon’ that Jos seems to have become. We hope we can rise from these developments with a greater value of human life and dignity. To this end, we at reliablereporters.com will not glorify the events of recent times by promoting their gory details.

Our concern is that we have allowed those with all sorts of personal interests to define our own country for us. There were times in the past when as children growing up we had such garguantuan image of our citizenship as Nigerians among other African brothers. Even in those days much of the maladies we complain of today still existed back then-the political upheavals, the religious violence and whatnots. So what really happened over the years? What happened is that we allowed others to define our country for us while exploiting our local frustrations at matters we could have managed differently.

Make no mistake about this article. The inability of certain public officials to live up to expectations in the power sector is abominable. The current tendency by certain political actors to play to the gallery and demean the tenets of nationalism and patriotism is shameful. The resort by renowned critics to be unequally yoked with unbelievers in the quest for political influence is absurd. The stance of certain leaders in betraying divine trust is disappointing. The emergence of religious leaders that behave more like garage boys in the quest to be seen as social critics is wanton disgrace. The incurable taste for blood that is the lot of some brothers in Jos and other places is luciferan, devilish, satanic and must be resisted, uprooted and vanquished with all the force that man and God can muster. />

But for now let us look at the beautiful picture of the true Nigeria. Let us hail the Super Eagles divine performance at the Africa Nations Cup in Angola. Let us relish the strength of our democracy, which has shown its growth through resilience in the face of current trials. Let us adore the hundreds of Nigerian scientists that have kept nuclear, computer, forensic and other critical research exploding in the United States of America and other places. They tried to call us terrorists but we all know what serious joke that is because it is barely four years that the world said that we, Nigerians are the happiest people in the world. Happy people do not commit suicide. We rest our case. Really we are Good People and a Great Nation and nothing can change that. />
